Friday, October 1, 2010, 10:00 - 11:00, World Peace Day Observance in the State Capitol Building. World Peace Day in Louisiana has been recognized on October 1 through legislative resolution and gubernatorial proclamation. In celebration of this observance we will hold an event featuring entertainment, a speaker, and a preview of the "Artists as Peacemakers" exhibit, along with student submittals from around the state that will be on display with the exhibit. We will also have a video about the Gandhi, King, and Ikeda exhibit on continuous play for viewing in a Senate committee room.
Sunday, October 3, 2010, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm, Opening Ceremony, in the State Capitol Rotunda for the opening of "Artists as Peacemakers". The opening ceremony will begin with an Interfaith Service followed by cultural performances, speakers, and the ribbon cutting ceremony in Capitol Rotunda.
Thursday, October 7, 2010, 6:00 p.m. there will be a Youth Forum/Panel Discussion with student representatives from Southern University, Baton Rouge Community College, and Louisiana State University at the International Cultural Center at LSU, 3365 Dalrymple Drive, Baton Rouge, LA 70802. The topic will focus around World Peace, "what world peace means to you" and "are there examples of art and particular artists whose work has caught your attention in this respect?"
Louisiana Students! You are invited to take part in World Peace Day activities by submitting an entry describing World Peace and what does it look like to you? Submit your drawings, poems, songs, pictures, or videos. If chosen, your entry may be displayed at the State Capitol Building from during the month of October, with the Artists as Peacemakers.
