World Peace: It Begins With You and Me
  Background

The Institute of All Nations, a private, nonprofit corporation, permanently chartered by the regents of the state of New York, began under the co-chairmanship of former United States Supreme Court Justice Arthur J. Goldberg and former United Nations Ambassador Arthur S. Lall, with Dr. Rama C. Mohanty of Louisiana as general secretary, adopted a resolution that World Peace Day be observed internationally each October first, beginning in 1998.

The observance of this day in Louisiana has been marked by an annual proclamation by the governor and the adoption of resolutions by the state legislature.

A World Peace Day Committee comprised of community and government leaders plan special activities for October 1. The committee receives advice and recommendations from the World Peace Day Advisory Group. These events are held primarily, but not exclusively, in Baton Rouge. World Peace Day observances by local communities, schools, workplaces, families, and individuals are strongly encouraged.
